McCarthy, 55, and Taylor, 45, who run Ready2Rock Landscaping, made the journey to Ukraine to help those trying to flee to the border.

They had already completed two “missions”, one helping a pair make it to Poland, another helping a mum and son flee Odessa and arrive safely in Romania.

Next, they headed to Sumy where they encountered trouble with Russians.

As they filmed from a bunker in Sumy, McCarthy said: “We had some real bad problems today with the Russian army. We were shot at, our tyres were shot at, my phone was stolen, all the food that we had in the van was stolen. Now we are in Sumy and we are going to complete our mission.”

The pair were rescued by locals who helped fix their tyres and brought them to a back route into Sumy.

“We are going to complete mission impossible three,” McCarthy said.

And that they did, taking several from Sumy to the Romanian border, including Rachel from Ireland.

In an update on Ready2Rock Landscaping’s tiktok, where the pair are keeping everyone in the loop, a video shows them completing “mission four” rescuing yet another person fleeing to the borders.

In their most recent tiktok, the pair are at a garage where their van is being repaired. With little money to work with, McCarthy explained the garage was: “told by their chief of police at the border they are not to charge us, because we informed them about what we were doing. They were really happy with what we were doing, so we’re going to get a free fix.”

Once fixed, McCarthy and Taylor will get back on the road and continue their mission.

McCarthy and Taylor have set up a Go Fund Me page to help support their efforts which you can find here. They have so far raised over £44,500.
