Alton Garden Centre director Andy Bunker gives us insight from the plantarea at the Essex retailer, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the same year Horticulture Week is celebrating its 180th.
He gives us the lowdown on plant supply issues, how imports have helped out the trade, reserves for 2022, plant price Inflation, how the weather and foreign holidays could decided whether the season extends, changes in restaurant offer and the vexed question of peat and whether customers are asking for more peat-free. He finishes by giving us his view on what plant sales trends he expects for 2022.
Bunker also relates what it's like working with so many family members, his hopes for the anniversary golf tournament and his desert island plant.
