James Oakey is running the 26.2 mile London marathon for charity.

He said: "I’ve tried numerous times over the years to enter this event to no avail. This year I got the chance to run for a local charity- so leapt at the chance to tick this off my lifetime ‘bucket list’.

"I’m running for CamVet – The Cambridge University Veterinary School Trust. A not-for-profit charity to fund essential equipment and facilities for diagnosing and treating animals referred for care, whilst students gain experience and training in the animal’s treatment.

"It’s a win for me, a win for the students and a win for the animals receiving care.

"I was hoping for a personal best time of 3½ hours having run my first and only marathon two years go in 4h 15 with no training (thank you Covid which led to an incredibly busy horticultural time). – however due to picking up an injury over the last few weeks, I’m going to take my time and soak in the atmosphere of the event whilst trying my upmost to get around the course as quick as I can.

"I’d be very grateful if you could spare a few pounds to support me on my 26-mile journey by sponsoring me here. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/james-oakey1

"On the day I’ll post my race number on the JustGiving link so you can track me around the course."
