Champions picked to deliver agriculture strategy

Farplants director Martin Emmett is one of four agriculture "skills champions" selected to deliver a cross-industry strategy launched in London this week.

The strategy has been driven by the Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) and championed by the cross-industry AgriSkills Forum.

It forms the levy board's response to recommendations made in the agri-tech strategy and the Future of Farming Review as well as by the Farming Regulation Task Force for the AHDB to lead a more coordinated approach to skills development and the attainment of greater industry professionalism.

Lord de Mauley, the NFU, Landex, Lantra and AHDB spoke at the launch. Delivery work streams include promoting skills development as central to business improvement, using skills development opportunities to promote the industry and leading the industry on the skills-development agenda.
