Book of the week: Royal Horticultural Society - RHS The Garden Almanac 2025

The month-by-month guide to your best ever gardening year is written by Guy Barter and Zia Allaway and illustrated by Angie Lewin.

The Garden Almanac

Publisher Frances Lincoln has stepped into the burgeoning sector of annual gardening guides, popularised in recent years by Lia Leendertz's The Almanac.

This second RHS annual is sure to be a topseller with its foolproof mix of everything from moon phases to sunset times, bug hotel projects to budget-friendly ideas (e.g sow microgreens in recycled food trays).

A great Christmas gift, gardeners can dip into the guide when short of inspiration or guidance at any time of the year.

Hundreds of photos are complimented by Angie Lewin's prints, which have a seventies nostalgic air, a time when this sort of guide (Wisden, Old Moore's, Whitakers) last peaked. The internet has intervened, but this book shows there is a renewed value placed on the printed step-by-step how-to guide...and the well-designed and well-presented written word.
