Best New Retail Product Wildlife - Winner: Simon King, Brushwood Robin Nester

The Robin Nester is an original design by British television presenter and cameraman Simon King OBE, who used his knowledge of birds and robins in particular to create a habitat tailored to the nesting habits of the species.

Best New Retail Product Wildlife - Winner: Simon King, Brushwood Robin Nester

Traditionally, robin nest boxes are open fronted. Simon King's brushwood-finish design, which has an open reception area and hidden nest space, provides an easily hidden, beneficial habitat and is an attractive garden feature.

The nester features bright Simon King artwork providing excellent shelf presence and is sold at a maximum shelf price of £6.99. The product sold out its first production run, with further production currently underway.

Robins are the nation's favourite bird and the nester was a great sell at Christmas and then from January to June for both the gift and wild bird market. The nester has a strong steel frame with weather-resistant roof lining and natural brush finish, and comes complete with fixing wire. Its light weight means it is easier to fix into bushes than a wooden box.

The unique design is protected by European Design Rights and is based on three years of research.
